백내장 수술을 하면 아루래도 칼이 들어가기 때문에 수술 후 염증반응이 생깁니다.

이때문에 기존에 황반변성이 악화될수도 있다는게 그동안의 통념인데

예전의 연구들을 종합해본 결과

백내장 수술은 황반변성을 악화 시키지 않으며 경과에 영향을 주지 않는다는 결론이 있네요.

더구나 이번연구에서 중점적으로 인용된 논문이 한국에서 연구한 논문이였네요

THEORIES OF ASSOCIATION
Although unproven, there are two theoretical mechanisms that could lead to the development or progression of AMD after cataract surgery: blue light toxicity and inflammation.

2. Inflammation, specifically immune dysregulation involving the alternative complement pathway, has been established to play a key role in the pathogenesis of AMD

‘even if cataract surgery does affect AMD, this hazard is of insignificant magnitude relative to the established role of ageing as an AMD risk factor’.
